Theater of the Sea animal care specialists are responsible for the daily care and training of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, California sea lions, and/or fish & reptiles, maintenance of facility, and performance of public shows and interaction programs.

Assistants help specialists in all departments including dolphin, sea lion, fish and reptile, and guest services. Most animal care specialists began as assistants.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred:

  • SCUBA certification
  • Experience with marine animals
  • Degree in related field
  • Physically fit
  • Good public speaking abilities
  • Strong swimming skills

Requirements for swim test:

  • Free style from float to dock and breaststroke back to float
  • Swim underwater for 25 feet
  • Dive from float
  • Free dive to bottom of lagoon (25 feet)
  • Tread water for 3 minutes while holding something above your head
  • Pull yourself out of the water onto the float
  • Optional-Dolphin foot push around the pool and up onto the float
  • Speaking into the microphone upon completion
